Flight across 6 countries, FBI tip-off: How gangster Deepak Boxer was caught in Mexico

Police said Deepak Boxer had been attempting to illegally enter the United States and was using fake passports and multiple routes to avoid detection. Here’s how he was tracked down in Mexico and arrested.

Gangster Deepak Boxer was brought to India on Wednesday after his arrest in Mexico.

By India Today News Desk: In a major breakthrough, Special Cell of the Delhi Police, in collaboration with local authorities and the FBI, apprehended notorious gangster Deepak Boxer in Mexico. The criminal mastermind had been attempting to illegally enter the United States and was using fake passports and multiple routes to avoid detection.

Following his arrest, Deepak Boxer was brought to India via Istanbul on Wednesday. This was the first time that Delhi Police arrested a gangster in an operation outside the country. Police had announced a reward of Rs 3 lakh on information leading to Deepak’s arrest.

HOW DEEPAK BOXER EVADED ARREST… TILL HE LANDED IN COP NET

According to Special Commissioner (Special Cell) HGS Dhaliwal, Deepak had travelled from Kolkata to Mexico through Dubai, Almaty in Kazakhstan, Turkey, and finally Spain, before reaching the Mexican city of Cancun.

Cancun is a known hub of drug cartels that are also involved in human trafficking. Deepak’s ultimate goal was to reach the United States with the help of human traffickers. He reportedly has associates in California.

The police tracked Deepak’s movements with the help of technical inputs and information provided by his associates. They learned that he had spent approximately Rs 40 lakh to reach Mexico. His cousin Sandeep helped him in this.

The Delhi Police team, along with local authorities and the FBI, was able to locate Deepak in Cancun, where he was taken into custody. The arrest was made possible through the coordinated efforts of the Delhi Police and international law enforcement agencies.

DEEPAK BOXER’S RISE TO NOTORIETY

Deepak Boxer is a notorious gangster who is wanted in several criminal cases, including extortion, murder, and kidnapping. He had been on the run for several years and was considered a high-value target by law enforcement agencies.

A resident of Gannaur in Haryana’s Sonipat district, Deepak headed the Gogi gang after the killing of its head Jitendra Mann alias Gogi inside the Rohini court complex by two men in September 2021.

He was wanted in connection with the killing of builder Amit Gupta, who was shot several times in his left leg and abdomen on August 23 last year in north Delhi’s Burari. Deepak had claimed responsibility for Gupta’s killing on Facebook, saying they had killed him due to his proximity with their rival Tillu gang.
